Dharmendra

A village simpleton, Dharmendra came to Bombay with the hope of being a part of the world he had always dreamed about. The only things he had were oodles of confidence and loads of macho good looks. These worked in his favour and soon Dharmendra could kill anyone just flashing his innocent smile.

He soon started getting noticed and came across small roles as in 'Anuradha', 'Anpad' and 'Bandini' (1963). He then hit big time and did some powerful roles as in 'Aaya Saawan Jhoom Ke', 'Mera Gaon Mera Desh', 'Chupke Chupke', 'Aankhen' and 'Charas'.

The journey from his hometown Phagwara to Bombay was not that an easy one but Dharmendra was able to survive all odds. He was never considered a great actor but even critics had to conclude at one point of his career that he was indeed a versatile one. He accepted whatever roles came to him and truly depended on his directors without interfering in their work. There came movies like 'Guddi', 'Naukar Biwi Ka', 'Dream Girl', 'Jugnu' and 'Ram Balram' that helped him prove his calibre to the world. He is considered to be a hassle free actor to work with but one has to do with his temperaments. But then even moon has uneven surfaces.

One movie for which he is still fondly remembered is the all-time hit 'Sholay'. His role of the flirtatious 'Veeru' is still considered to be the best and has remained an unmatched feat. Dharmendra has done many multi-starrer films also like 'Sultanate' and 'Batwara'.

Dharmendra cannot separate himself from the industry of which he is a part and still continues doing films. There are present generation actors who have been minting money on his mannerisms but he is someone who remains his own self. There can't be anymore Dharmendras around!
