Jeetendra, born in 1942, came from a family which sold imitation jewellery to the film industry. This brought him in contact with V Shantaram who gave him his first break opposite Rajshri. The year was 1964 and the film 'Geet Gaya Pattheron Ne'. Things were picking up for him as an actor. But it was 'Farz' which brought the dancing sensation out of him. So strong were his abilities as a dancer that people nick named him as the 'Jumping Jack'. He started getting offers for films like 'Jigri Dost', 'Humjoli' and 'Caravan'. But it is quite interesting to know how V Shantaram gave him a chance in 'Navrang' and 'Sehra'. During 1970s, some of his acting abilities were shown in films like 'Bidaai' with Leela Chandavarkar, 'Parichay' with Jaya Bhadhuri, 'Khusboo' & 'Kinara' with Hema Malini. There were some of his other films like 'Asha', 'Maang Bharo Sajna' and 'Ek Hi Bhool'.
There came a phase in his career in early 1980s where he started doing Madras films. Some films were 'Himmatwala', 'Mawali', 'Tohfa' and such like. He got paired up with Jaya Prada and Sridevi which acted in everyone's favour.
The Jeetendra magic is slowly fading off and he has content himself with more of character roles as in 'Santaan' and 'Udhaar Ki Zindagi' where is has to walk with a stick and grey his hair. Apart from acting Jeetendra is now busy with is home production 'Balaji Telefilms' producing movies and many daily soap operas....
