Mehmood

This ultimate funster had done a lot of odd jobs like selling newspapers, tending a poultry farm to teaching Meena Kumari table tennis, before he seriously indulged himself into acting. He wanted an identity of his own and that's the reason he did not use his sister-in-law Meena Kumari's influence to get him work. He wanted to achieve everything by his own self.

Mehmood started his acting career with some offbeat movies like 'Do Dil' and 'Bedaag' with Mumtaz. He even worked as an assistant director. Without anyone's support and with whatever movies he got, he graduated into doing films like 'Parvarish' (1958) and 'Chhoti Behan' (1959) which brought him the much-needed recognition. His pairing with Shobha Khote was so appreciated by the audiences that they kept doing movies like 'Ziddi', 'Love in Tokyo', 'Sasural' and 'Humraahi' with each other. Slowly, the heroes were threatened by the applause Mehmood got as a comedian. They refused working with him and so he had to produce his own movies. Some of the movies produced by Mehmood are 'Kuwaara Baap', 'Ginny & Johnny' and 'Mastaana'. But like every good thing, even Mehmood's era came to an end and he had to do with less appreciation. But he is still considered as the biggest comedian Bollywood can boast of.
