Sunny Deol

Sunny Deol, son of veteran film-star Dharmendra, made his Bollywood debut with Betaab in 1983, which was a phenomenal success.

After a series of forgettable roles he hit a high with his portrayal of Arjun Malvankar an unemployed young man in the 1985 hit Arjun. His success continued with his performances in with Dacait, Yateem, Tridev and ChaalBaaz. He even won the best actor award in 1990 for his performance in Ghayal. Success continued with films like Narsimha, Lootere and Darr. In 1993 he won the national award for his portrayal of Shekhar a man torn between his loyalty to his family and his wife with Damini.

After a series of flops such as Insaniyat, Angrakshak, Himmat, Jeet et al he revived his career with J.P. Dutta's Border in which he played the role of Major Kuldeep Singh. He was then seen in movies like Zor, Ziddi, Salaakhen and Pyar Koi Khel Nahi. But luck was not exactly on his side as his home production Dillagi with brother Bobby Deol too failed to elicit a positive response at Box-Office.

Sunny Deol got a much needed break with Gadar: Ek Prem Katha for his portrayal of Tara Singh, an Indian truck driver who falls in love with a Muslim girl at the time of partition. The movie was safely the biggest hit of Deol's career innings.

Success has since proved elusive for this action star with his recent films such as Karz, Kaise Kahoon Ke Pyar Hai, Khel, Rok Sako To Rok Lo and Jo Bole So Nihaal all failing at the Box-Office again.

A man still going strong after almost three decades in the industry with more flops than hits to his credit faces the camera again in the fall of 2006 with Deodhar Gandhi.
