And Then …
Through a 16-minute long session that included sock puppets (for real), a tap-dancing Harry Potter, a song about actress' boobs, politically incorrect jokes about Chris Brown and Rihanna, Don Cheadle and Quentin Tarantino, a Captain Kirk-ed William Shatner (for real), an admittedly graceful dance by Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum, and what felt like a little infomercial for a MacFarlane album of standards, the newbie host had us wondering what kind of trippy scene we'd tuned in to.

Seth MacFarlane: "I Saw Your Boobs" song and dance

In one of the least classy and possibly most uncomfortable moments of the evening, host Seth McFarlane executed a production number titled "I Saw Your Boobs." On the Oscars. Yes, really.

You know that season-long victory march "Argo" completed on Sunday night? It wasn't nearly as easy as it looked.

In fact, before Ben Affleck's crowd-pleasing project walked away with Best Picture at the 85th Academy Awards, it had to catch a ride on a perfect storm of timing, talent and a healthy quotient of old-fashioned Hollywood luck.

"Argo," the jaunty tale of the CIA's rescue of American foreign-Nopservice workers in Iran with a little help from a Hollywood B-Movie team, began its long Oscar voyage with a strong showing at the Telluride Film Festival last fall. And while it went on to collect positive reviews and more than $130 million at the box office, it may be the things Affleck's film didn't do that really made the difference.

You'd think that Kristen Stewart and Daniel Radcliffe taking the stage would conjure a lot of fan excitement -- after all, it isn't very often that Bella Swan and Harry Potter are seen in public together, much less as presenters at a major awards ceremony. However, there was just something about K.Stew being at the Oscars that brought on the bile in the twitter-verse … mostly involving her appearance.

Radcliffe got away unscathed (he usually does), but it was open season on Stewart as she showed up at the 85th Annual Academy Awards sporting her trademark facial expression that somehow manages to convey both disinterest and condescension … and on a set of crutches.

Oscar host Seth MacFarlane got plenty of groans from the audience for jokes that crossed the line of good taste, but the line that really upset people wasn't said on stage. It was a satirical tweet from famous fake news source The Onion, and it started a firestorm of protest on Twitter.

After mingling with host Elton John himself, Brown held court with a smoking crowd outside the restrooms discussing his latest album and the photographers he'd like to use for its various promo shoots. Entertaining two girls and two guys, Brown seemed content to stay on the fringe of the big screening -- one that saw a major reaction to the show's original song performances by Adele and Barbra Streisand.
