    • A still from Shor in the city

Cast: Tusshar Kapoor, Radhika Apte, Nikhil Dwivedi, Pitobash Tripathi, Senthil Ramamurthy, Zakir Hussain

Directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK

      Rating: ** 1/2

Films about Mumbai have always thrived on stereotypes and will continue to do so. But despite the cliches, 'Shor in the City' manages to bring it together, tickling and terrorizing you in equal proportion. And Shor's biggest merit is that it doesn't forcefully weave the parallel stories that light up the screen (down with Kukunoor!). The characters may spill over from one to the other but don't necessarily become game-changers for the neighbouring plot.

So let's get to the root of the shor. The film is divided into three parallel stories being narrated in snatches during Mumbai's noisiest time of the year- the ten-day celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi (the best way to maximise the tittle?). The first is a 'dark' tale (not a pun on the complexion) of Abhay (Sendhil Ramamurthy), a US-returned businessman who wants to set up a

    • Great Expectations

Living in the shadows of India's one and only superstar and a respected actress who in her heydays was the epitome of grace onscreen and, dare I say it, the world's most recognised beautiful face, ex beauty queen turned somewhat of a crossover phenomenon in films who commands a princely sum for the smallest endorsement, must be a huge burden for someone who's time and again faced criticism for his bad run at the box office.

Now add to it that the former two are his parents and the latter is his wife who enjoys global recognition like no other Bollywood star has or probably ever will. Even Atlas would have shrugged.

If anyone deserves a break from the constant comparisons, expectations and enormous pressure of being a star son and star husband, it's Abhishek Bachchan.

I remember being a staunch Aamir Khan loyalist when I first set eyes on Abhishek. I was whizzing past Mumbai's High Court after a lovely dinner at a colleague's house, and we stopped when we saw Abhishek along with his

While they are always seen at social events together and Deepika is present at every IPL match to cheer the Royal Challengers Bangalore, they refuse to acknowledge that they are a couple. The very public lip-lock however seems to tell a very different story.

      Check the video:

Does this mean that while they maintain the 'no comments' stance on their relationship, they have actually sealed it with a kiss? Or was it just a spontaneous show of affection?

    • Big B quits Ram Gopal Varma's 'Department', hurt by Ramu's SMS about his son's latest release. Is Bollywood getting too sensitive?

It's not business, it's personal, particularly for our beloved B'wood biggies. Muck squirted on beta Ranbir on 'Koffee with Karan' and daddy refuses to act in Karan's next. Then, one is familiar with this unsaid (and obvious) pattern in failed Bollywood relationships: the two can't be co-stars in the future, won't be seen at social or promotional events together and would be glad to skip even attending the premiere of each other's movies. So, the break-up is more like a social media exercise. And did you wonder why Shahid and Kareena weren't cast as a pair again despite being a superhit onscreen jodi? Well, it could have something to do with them parting ways off-screen just before the release of Jab We Met and also that's when Kareena met Saif. Or are we over-editorialising this?

Another classic case-study is Bollywood's own bad boy, Salman Khan. You

    • Shagird director, Tigmanshu Dhulia backs Nana despite his peculiar ways as he offers 'good suggestions' to improve the film

      Nana Patekar in Shagird

Nana Patekar is not new to this branch of cinema that is trigger-happy. Having played an encounter cop in the past, in Tigmanshu Dhulia's 'Shagird', he returns in a slightly twisted avatar, as a corrupt cop with a sense of humour. Difficult to digest? Well, wait for May 13 for the film's release to find out how it translates on the screen. Meanwhile, in an exclusive for Yahoo! India, Dhulia takes us through his journey of filming his latest and yes, putting up with Bollywood's most idiosyncratic actor, Nana.

What triggered the idea to write Shagird and what helped you in completing this script from scratch to final draft?
I had never done a thriller before and I wanted to do it very badly. I had a plot that required a character who was approximately the same age as Nana and of his fitness level as well. Luckily, he liked the script and then I tried to make the

    • Y! Meta Review: Dum Maaro Dum

Dum Maaro DumEveryone agrees that Rohan Sippy's Dum Maaro Dum is a slick and stylish production but is that enough to carry the move through? While the film scores on the style-quotient, it suffers on account of the writing that fails to create an emotional connect.

NDTV's Anupam Chopra says that the film had all the elements but they just don't add-up:

Dum Maaro Dum has all the ingredients of crackling entertainment: a sun-kissed but suitably seamy location: Goa. A subject that works as an anti-drug cautionary tale but also provides ample opportunity to revel in the gritty glamour of rave parties, cocaine and formidably toned women wearing as little as possible. A director - Rohan Sippy - who has an edgy sensibility and loves stylistic flourishes.

      And yet, she adds,

This is one film that should soar but sadly it never quite takes flight. The problem is the writing.

CNN-IBN's Rajeev Masand echoes similar views on the movie and calls it 'haphazard'. He says that DMD "is a heady cocktail of crime,

      Dum Maaro Dum

Our in-house movie critics - Rummana and Kunal - seldom agree with each other when it comes to reviewing a movie. Their views are poles apart - normally, that is. But this time around, both of them feel that Rohan Sippy's Dum Maaro Dum fails to maintain the momentum.

Here is what Kunal has to say - "Rape, tourist ki maut, prostitution, all crimes are linked to drugs," says a cocky politician. He skipped pollution and population? Anyway, he's requesting angry young ACP, Vishnu Kamath (Abhishek Bachchan), to consider the task of sweeping Goa off all illegal intoxicants. With little hesitation, Kamath accepts the job. But only under the condition that he gets to pick his team and that he is allowed to play by his own rules (unlike other action heroes who love being forced into teams and pushed around by rule books?). Read on

And here's Rummana's take on it - Rohan Sippy's 'Dum Maaro Dum' is high on the style quotient- new editing techniques, original transitions, smart dissolve effects,

Dum Maaro DumRohan Sippy's 'Dum Maaro Dum' is high on the style quotient- new editing techniques, original transitions, smart dissolve effects, the overall production quality is great. While the packaging is slick, the thriller starts well but fails to maintain the momentum.

Simplistically the plot revolves around the drug racket in Goa and ACP Vishnu Kamath (Abhishek Bachchan) is sent to clean-up the mess. But there are other layers that unfold as the story progresses — every character has a troubled past and its interesting how each of them inadvertently become an integral part of the narrative. None of the characters are a mere prop in the story but are inextricably linked to the plot and to each other.

Prateik plays Lorry, a good student who wants to go to the U.S. to pursue higher studies. When his girlfriend gets the visa and he fails to get funding for his education abroad, Lorry gets desperate. He takes a shortcut to go abroad but life takes an unexpected turn and veers out of control.

      Zokkomon

      Director: Satyajit Bhatkal
Cast: Darsheel Safary, Anupam Kher, Manjari Phadnis

      Rating: **

Zokkomon is a brilliant business plan and every parent's best bet for escaping their kids for a few hours. A superhero movie that features Darsheel Safary's journey from awkward to awesome has to be the best way to kick-start the summer vacations.

The film opens to an establishing shot of rural India which is done with Kailash Kher belching out a number, appropriately picturised on Makarand Deshpande. This is done simultaneously as Kunal (Darsheel Safary) is being sent to the custody of his legal guardian, Chacha (Anupam Kher) after the demise of his parents. And the helicopter shot of Hogwarts Express that you might have caught in the promos is actually Indian Rail that's taking Kunal to his predictably evil uncle and aunt who leave no stone unturned to give him the Cinderella treatment.

Soon, Kunal is forsaken at an amusement park by his evil chacha, who then pronounces him dead, to polish off
