Bollywood has been historically weary of taboo subjects, whether it's sex, adultery or infertility. The only other recent film that actually made an attempt to handle a taboo subject like infertility was Meghna Gulzar's 'Filhal' where surrogacy and related complications between childhood friends (Tabu and Sushmita) was the main premise. Well, there was also Abbas-Mustan's 'Chori Chori Chupke Chupke' but let's not go there, considering it takes the concept of surrogate birth to a completely different level. Shoojit Sircar's 'Vicky Donor' attempts to explore male
infertility which is a bigger taboo in a patriarchal society like ours.

Dr Chaddha convincing Vicky
Humour as a storytelling device is the only way to approach a subject as sensitive as male infertility. The film's USP is its complete irreverence to this topic and Dr Chaddha's (Anu Kapoor) business-like manner of looking for an eligible sperm donor. His shady clinic in Lajpat Nagar (New Delhi) is inconspicuous and is apt to protect the identity of his high-profile clientele. Our north Indian patriarchs wouldn't definitely want to advertise potency issues and prefer Dr Chaddha's Infertility Clinic to a more reputed swanky clinic elsewhere.

Ayushman Khurana as Vicky Arora aka Vicky Donor is the typically brash Punjabi munda. Cricket in the morning, branded clothes, expensive perfumes and partying in the evening is enough to make him happy. It doesn't matter that his single mother runs a beauty parlour to provide for his flamboyant lifestyle.Vicky and Ashima's love story on Page 4>>
Any Bollywood film is incomplete with a love angle, so the flashy Punjabi boy Vicky falls for the quiet Bengali girl Ashima Roy (Yami Gautam). While the two have no issues with cultural diversity, the differences between the two families become more pronounced when they decide to get married. The humourous resolution of this disparity makes for a fun watch especially, the scene in which the intellectual Bengali father of the bride and the Punjabi would-be saas decide on the wedding.Vicky Donor is a hit on Page 5>>

Shoojit Sircar's 'Vicky Donor' is definitely watchable for more reasons than just Ayushman Khurana and Anu Kapoor's acting.
