Do you believe in destiny and part it plays in man's life?

I don't know about destiny but I have a blind belief and totally surrendered to God. I believe there is a God who has a plan for all His creation. I firmly believe that I am whatever I am because of the "rahmo-karam" of God. I would been no where without His hand above me. I will never do anything without him with me. Everything I am and have is His.

Do you think that only by surrendering to God you can achieve whatever you want?

God helps those who help themselves. God is there everywhere; God is there with every creation of His because He has created them. But God also has given every creation some talent, some skill. He has given everyone some gift. He ahs sent me, given me life to make use of the gift He has showered on me. I cannot sit at home and leave everything to god. I have to work very hard, sincerely and live up to His expectations. I have to make use of His blessings in my work. And after having worked the way He wants me to work I leave everything to Him. It is this relationship between God and me that has reached me so far and will take me ahead. I will do whatever I can to add to His glory. Kisine such hi kahan hai, God help those who earn bread by the sweet of their brow.

Did you ever imagine that you would reach the position you have and find the success you have found?

I have a very rich imagination, thanks to God, but, frankly, I could never at any time believe I would be what I am today. Sab Maalik ka karam hai. I have always done my work to the best of my ability and it is part of my life to leave all the rest to Him. He has brought me so far. He alone will lead me in my way to wherever I have to reach ultimately.

Are you satisfied with way your career as a writer?

Any creative person can never be completely satisfied with his work. The day I am feel I am satisfied and I done all I have to and have achieve everything great as writer will also be the my last day as a writer. I have so much still to do as writer to reach anywhere near the standards set by some of the greatest Indian writer who have been my role models.

But you are one of the most successful writer's successful writers in Hindi films today.

The definition of success keeps changing everyday. I know I have written the script for some of the most successful films in the last 10 years. I have made it as a successful writer who can entertain the people and I have succeeded in satisfying the people who crave for entertainment in their dull and dreary lives. But success is not the kind of success that I came to film for. Ha, success is what everyone wants, but success is not everything. I think a writer is specially is successful only after he enriches, entertains, enlightens and elevates the minds of the people. I have still a long way to reach that stage. Mujhe aur kitna kuch karna aur kahna hai.

Is that the reason why you took a break from all those downright masala film that you wrote for David Dhavan?

Yes, I reached a stage when I felt as if the writer in me was being bound by chains of silver, gold and even platinum. All that give me a very good feeling till it lasted, but somehow I felt I could hear my inner voice saying that this was not all that I was made for. I heard my conscience crying for help. I finally gave into that voice when I took a break even though I had to make all kinds of sacrifices and keep away from all the glamour, the attractions and temptations.

But David Dhavan has played a very important role in your life.

How can I ever forget David's contribution to my life He took me from no where to a place which was a dream world. He gave me a name, a place and a position from where I could take any big or bold step. I will always be grateful to David and will always be available for him whenever he orders me to.

Why did you decide to scarify so many luxuries to start new struggle?

Just because of the call of my conscience like I told you. I wanted to entertain people and I did, but I also wanted to tell them the truth about life with a pill with a strong sugar-coating. I wanted to lift up their lives without preaching to them I felt the best way was to direct my own film. And say what I wanted to without any other influence.

Don't you think you have taken a major responsibility by taking up the challenge of directing a film?

It is really the greatest responsibility I have taken I hope and pray to God that I succeed. I know it is not easy. It was easy just writing and living it all to the director. Now it is very heavy responsibility. I have to write what I feel but I have also to see that everything I write comes alive on the screen. It is a tough task but I have learned the way to go ahead and I feel I have been able to do it. I would not be able to complete a big film like "God, Tussi Great Ho" if I had no known what I was capable of and was doing.

Why have you called your first film "God, Tussi Great Ho"?

There is nothing greater than God. God is the basic truth of the life. There is no one greater then God. I don't understand hoe some people live without believing in the greatness of God who has been created by them. But I must tell you my film is not a religious or a emotional films as the title may sound. It is a wholesome entertainer with a powerful message I hope will live with people all their lives.

Tell me something about the team you're working with.

At the very outset I must say that I found one of the best producers in Afzal Khan. Afzal bhai knows the job of producer. He has all the potential to tap all the resources to make good flm. He is the ideal producer for a director, especially for a new director like me. He has to seen that I have no problems whatsoever during the making of a big film like mine. He has literally spoilt me by catering to all my needs. I don't know if I will find another producer like him. And what can be a greater blessing then having Mr. Amithabh Bachchan in my very first film. He is not just mind-blowing but also heart and soul blowing in my film He is like a student when he is being directed even by a newcomer like me. I always say Amitji tusi great ho. I have my friends Salman Khan and Anupam Kher who have always been my pillars of strength and I have Priyanka who is a star today but has never behaved like one on my set.

Who are the directors to have inspired you?

The names come to me easily. Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoor, Raj Khosla and Vijay Anand and among the new generation I admire the young men like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Rajkumar Hirani.

Where does all this leave the writer, Rumi Jaffery?

A writer work can never end. I will always keep writing till the last breath of my life. It could be writing for films, my own films or the films of others. It could be writing plays, short stories or may be even a novel, but writing can never leave me, I hope it doesn't.

How do you see your future?

I don't see or think about anything. I only do my job and I am not saying this for effect but I strongly believe that my future is designed by great God above. He will take me were he wants me to
