What is Delhi 6 all about?

Delhi 6 is a film about Delhi and people from Delhi but at the same time its most importantly about Indian people. Rakeysh being from Delhi and being familiar to it has symbolized Delhi to India. If one looks closely at Delhi, will realize that it's the heart of India and its very symbolic to what Indian people are and can be. Delhi 6 is therefore most importantly about India as a whole and Indian people.

What is the character that you are playing in this film?

The name of my character in this film is Bittu. Bittu is very today's girls. India consists of 80% youth and Bittu is representing those youths. Bittu doesn't want to just live her life like a typical middle class girl who would just do her graduation and marry a man of her father's choice. Bittu is someone who wants to make her own identity. I feel every one especially between the age of 18 to 28 years, when ones young, feels he or she wants to do a little more than what just your parents expect and society tells you. Bittu similarly doesn't have aim to just do MBA or marry, she is more like today's youth who has a lot of expectations from her life and herself. I feel every Indian youth can identify and relate to it.

How similar is Bittu to Sonam Kapoor?

Very similar, I am young and go through the same feeling and situations. I too at a certain period of time faced similar situation where my mom wanted me to study and marry a well settled man but I wanted to act and choose Hindi film industry as my career. I also face the same dilemma of not hurting my parents yet fulfill my dreams. I am an Indian girl so there are basic similarities but differences as well. Like Bittu is from a Delhi lower middle class family where as I am from Mumbai. There is a major difference between Delhi and Mumbai girls but being youthful there are many similarities as well.

To adapt yourself in this difference what kind of research did you go through?

I watched a lot of movies which had things to adapt about for me to play the character of a Delhi girl. I spoke to all my Delhi friends. I tried to incorporate the way they talk and behave. Delhi girls are a bit chatpatti comparatively; their accent and body language is totally different. I tried to learn basic differences like kakdi and kheera, pani puri and golgappa and many more like those.

What was your reaction to a big offer like this?

The first time I met Rakeysh in my house and we were sitting on a couch facing each other and he told me I have a story which is about Delhi and then he narrated the whole script to me. The first thought that came to me was that the story is so good, honest and noble. I immediately thought of the fact of a director like Rakeysh wants to sign me in his film so I was excited, happy and definitely it was a big deal for me.

How was the experience working with Abhishek?

It was great. Other than being very tall, he is very humorous. Other than just joking on the sets, he loves working. I initially had a misconception of feeling awkward as he is a much experienced actor but he makes everyone feel very comfortable. He not being too old yet very experienced helped me to identify with him and learn as well from him. He held my hand through the scenes because he has done like about 30 films so he knew what is he doing. He is outstanding as an actor.

How did the name Delhi 6 came up?

Delhi 6 is the pin code for Chandni Chowk and if you tell any local person you wish to go to Delhi 6, he would directly take you to Chandni Chowk. As the film is based on this place so they preferred naming the film Delhi 6.

Tell us something about the most famous song from the film Massakali picturised on you?

It's a beautiful song composed by Rahman and choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant. Massakali is the pigeon in the song that is all over me.

Film is just about to release in a few days how nervous are you?

Initially I was fine but now as the date of release is nearing I feel nervous and scared but I am better now.
