Now that DELHI 6 has released, do you ever think in the hindsight that you picked up a film like SAAWARIYA too early in your career?

Never once do I feel that. That's because it was Sanjay Leela Bhansali who discovered me. Even though I come from a film background, no one thought of making me an actor. In fact I myself never thought that I could be an actor.

Really?

That's right. It was he who noticed me and told me that I could become an actress. He gave me a role that was not just a pretty face. It's because of SAAWARIYA that people know today that I can do good even when presented with a difficult role.

Coming to DELHI 6, you seem far more energetic and vivacious when compared to SAAWARIYA. So is it the role or the experience that you have gained in front of the camera which has made this possible?

I would say it is more to do with the role because the character that I play in DELHI 6 is very different here. In SAAWARIYA, this girl Sakina was so low and depressed. Wo hamesha sehmi hui rehti thi! She was not a light girl at all. In fact everything about her was so heavy. She had nothing to look forward in life, what with her parents being dead, an ailing grand mother at home and a lover who had vanished. She was almost like a mad girl.

And the girl that you play in DELHI 6 is just contrasting, right?

That's true. 'Bittu' of DELHI 6 is a young girl who has everything to look forward to. She represents the youth of India and wants to fall in love. Obviously, she has to be vivacious, energetic and lively.
