What is the movie 'Ek' all about?
The movie 'Ek' is about a few characters. It's an action film based in Punjab. Like I've always said its Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge meets Die Hard. It is a blend of love and action.
What is Nana Patekar's character in 'EK'?
Nana Patekar plays an investigation bureau officer who adapts to different languages depending on the place he is in and these are all part of his investigative traits. He picks up language and accents depending on the place he is at.
Can you tell us something about the music of the film?
There are three songs in the film. One song is based on Bobby Deol. It is about his entire growing years from a young boy to an adult, being the present character in the film. The second song is based in Punjab, where he gets inducted into a family, his bonding with them and his love. The third song is a wedding song.
How was it shooting for the 'Ek', especially with Nana Patekar?
It was interesting. Nana is a different type of an actor, so each of them had to be dealt with differently. Kulbhushanji is a stage actor, so I got to learn different aspects from each one of them. It has been a very pleasant experience. It was a great learning process for both of us, for the actors as well as me as a director.
You have been known as a director who has done comedy movies in recent past. 'Ek' is a thriller. Is this a deliberate effort from your side to shift your genre?
My first Hindi film was 'Zor' which was an action film. When your films are not successful, audiences tend to forget it. It is just that the two comedies that I had made in recent past were successful, so I am known as a comedy director. There was a time in the industry when everyone wanted to do comedy and people who approached me were for comedy movies. But I guess, everyone wants to do something different. Precisely even I wanted to do something different. I took up this genre which is action and next in line is a horror film.
Why did you choose Punjab as your location to shoot your film?
I am a South Indian and am very fascinated by mustard flowers. A part of the movie had to be shot in a North Indian city. Punjab was always my first choice and it would give a different color to the movie. So we chose Punjab as the city for shooting this film.
What is different in the movie 'Ek'?
It is a nice film with some wonderful action sequences, great performances and some great visuals.
