What is the significance of the movie '99'?

Firstly, '99' film is set in the year 1999. Secondly, it has got to do with cricket betting and gambling. In cricket when a batsman reaches the score of 99, it becomes a tense moment. Similarly, all the characters in the movie are stuck on the score of 99 in their lives and are finding it difficult to get to a century. So will they score their century in life is the significance of the movie '99'.

The tag line of the film "Part fact. Part fiction. Pure fun." is very unusual and different. Can you tell us something more about it?

The year 1999 was the year when the cricket gambling scam broke out. So this is the backdrop of the film. The movie '99' shows a blend of the year 1999 which is the fact and the characters stuck at the score of 99 trying to make a century. So this is the fiction part. So the mix of two is presented in a very jovial way. So that is why it is called Part Fact, Part Fiction and Pure Fun.

We see that you have adopted a cool and dashing look for this film. Tell us more about this?

Actually, I adopt this look only towards the end as that is the requirement of the scene. Towards the end I have to go for betting so my look had to be of an upper class person. So the cool and dashing look is just towards the end.

The two directors are making their debut in Hindi films with '99'. How was it working with them?

It is a frightening thought when one has to work with debut director and it is even more when one is working with two directors working together as there could be difference of opinion or difference of thought. But in this particular case, the two directors Raj and DK had done their work very well. When they used to come on the sets, we knew exactly what they wanted. One is taking care of the visual aspect and the other is taking care of the drama aspect. So it worked fantastically well. They are very nice human beings and have a great sense of style and pace. Everybody needs an opportunity to showcase their talent and the industry definitely needs fresh talent.

Since the directors where new, were there any exchange of suggestions between you and the directors while making the film?

A film is a collaborative work. We used to rehearse the scene with the directors before actually doing it in front of the camera. In case anywhere on sets we felt it is not working well, we used to change it. One cannot make a film on very fixed patterns. It has to be made organically.

Amit Mistry is also making his debut. Tell us something about him.

He is a wonderful actor. He has three scenes in the film '99' and has made such an impact just within those. He is fun to be with as well.

Cyrus is another actor who is known for his comedy and comic timing. How was it working with him?

Cyrus is great fun in small doses. He was wonderful to act with. I enjoyed working with everyone in the film and was a memorable journey for me. We had a

young and energetic team which was commendable.

Tell us something about the music?

There are two songs in the film. But I think this film is more plot based and is a thriller. There is a lot of tension in the film. The comedy comes from the tension. Songs are very important sometimes but in this particular case, it is not something we are selling the film with. We are promoting the film as it is fast, it has an interesting plot, it's slick with interesting characters and somehow there is a energy in the film.
