What was your reaction when you first heard the music of "Paying Guests"?
We first heard the music for "Paying Guests" while we were shooting for the movie and all of us liked it. There is a club song which is shot on us, the four guys. So when I heard that song I felt it was 50 50. I asked our director Paritosh if he thinks that this song would be nice and he said you listen to it once we start shooting for it. When I heard it again while shooting, it started growing and now it has turned out to be one of my favourites. Apart from that I feel 'Jack n Jill' is a superb song and all other songs have been composed very well. All the songs are very peppy and suit the nature of the film.
In the promos of "Paying Guests" you are looking very beautiful and gorgeous. How do you feel about that compliment?
(Laughs) Thank you so much. I don't know how I should react to this compliment. But thanks to our make up team that they have made a man like me look gorgeous on the screen. Apart from that Paritosh really helped me for the body language that was needed. Even I have used my little observations about girls. So they have all tried their best to make me look gorgeous (winks).
How did you manage to carry off the 'Difficult to Handle' Sarees for your role in "Paying Guests"?
Carrying off a Saree was indeed very tough for me. Now I know why our actresses take so much time to get dressed up as even I used to take about two hours to get ready for a shot. Carrying off a Saree is definitely a tough job and thumbs up to all the actresses who do that.
What is "Paying Guests" all about?
"Paying Guests" is a great fun film. It is a complete slapstick; over the top kind of comedy about four friends who have been thrown out of their houses and respective jobs. Their first priority at that time is having a house to stay and then finding a job. So to get the house, two out of we four guys have to become women. One lie leads to the other and eventually what happens is the suspense in the film.
What role do you essay in the movie 'Paying Guests'?
In "Paying Guests" movie, I play a cook and John (Johnny Lever) is my employer. John is a man who forgets a lot. Once I happen to have a tussle with him and I am removed from my work place. After that I become a woman. When people ask me who are you paired opposite in the film, I say Celina and Ashish. Even he is paired opposite me and Neha Dhupia. I am playing a cook for the second time after 'Bombay to Bangkok'. I hope people really like it because more than being a cook, they will like me playing the home maker role more.
How was it hopping out of the vanity van in a saree for shooting for 'Paying Guests'?
(Laughs) I tell you it was torture because the first time I walked out of the van, people were whistling and pinching me. Somebody even tried to tickle me. I was wondering as to where am I stuck. This is just the first day; I still have to work for another forty more days. It was good fun and of course we had our moments. I have done it this time but I don't think I will do this again at least for the next two years.
'Paying Guests' is your second encounter as a co actress with Celina Jaitley. How was your experience working with her on this film?
Celina and me share a good bonding. She is very chilled out to work with. She is very hard working, comes on sets on time and gets ready on time. I had an impression about her during 'Golmaal' that she will come late and take time to get dressed. But when I went she was already there, all ready to shoot. So since then we understand each other. We also improvise a lot and know each other's strengths and weaknesses.
What was your reaction when you were first time getting dressed and saw yourself as a woman for "Paying Guests"?
I was very surprised as it was a drastic change. When I first sat down to get dressed as a woman, I deliberately closed my eyes and told them that tell me once everything is done and then I would look at myself. It took me about two hours to get dressed and I almost slept off that time. When I saw myself with the transition, I couldn't recognize myself. It was absolutely funny but a superb experience.
How was your overall experience working for "Paying Guests"?
I have worked for Mukta Arts five times, one of them being a co production. Paritosh, me and Sajid Wajid were in college together in the drama team. I used to act; Paritosh used to directed us and also used to write. Sajid Wajid used to give the music. So working for "Paying Guests" was like college reunion. Our associate director, Santram Verma and writer, Biloo, all of us were in college. So it was a great team coming together. For all of us it was a great opportunity and we have given it our best shot.
