Tell us something about the movie 'Luck'.
'Luck' is a film with a cool concept. It is something which we have not seen in India. It treats luck as a commodity and it is about human gambling and betting with people's lives. Firstly for me that was a very interesting concept. I am sure people would be very interested in seeing something like this. The treatment the director has given is very entertaining and commercial. He has treated it like a full on entertaining thriller with some good action and some really big stunts.
Elaborate on your character of Ram that you are playing in the movie.
Ram is an average middle class guy who works in a bank in Mumbai. He is normal guy and I believe that everyone would know a guy like him in their lives. He is a simple and normal guy. There is nothing unusual about him. He finds himself in a situation where he owes a lot of money, through no fault of his and he gets stuck in a bad situation and is looking for a way out. He needs a lot of money and that too very quickly.
There are experienced actors like Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakraborty and Danny Denzongpa. How was it working with them?
It is very interesting to have actors from different generations together because you have each actor bringing in something. Danny has so much experience that he knows every single thing about the camera, angle, light, almost everything. This is the kind of experience he came with. I have worked with Sanjay Dutt in my last film Kidnap,he was great in it and has done a great job again. Shruti is a new and young actress,so each actor is bringing in something new and cool to the making of the film. It is an interesting mix.
You have done a couple of stunts in the film which is not only physically challenging but also mentally difficult. How did you prepare yourself for the stunts?
For me it was not much of mental preparation,it is just a part of the scene. As an actor I am playing a character and the stunts are the requirements of the scene.
How much do you personally believe in luck?
I don't really believe in luck. I believe in more practical things. I am more rational and logical. So I tend not to believe in luck.
Shruti has marked her debut with this movie. How has your equation been with her?
Shruti has surprised me with the film. When one is doing a first film as an actor, there is always a certain sense of hesitation and Shruti has surprised me with her confidence. Honestly, when I saw the final part of the film, I was thoroughly impressed, she had done far well than what I thought she would.
What do you prefer Shruti as an actress or a singer?
It is really not fair to measure as she has got about 20 years of training in singing. So at this point she is a better singer. But who knows what will happen in the future.
Elaborate briefly on the action sequences in the film 'Luck'.
When someone is doing an action film, some injuries are part and parcel of it. You take all safety precautions and everything is carefully planned out. As far as possible all risk is eliminated. But there is a small element which is uncertain and also an element where you know you are going to get hurt a little bit. During the climax of the movie, an explosion went wrong and I burnt my eyelashes though it wasn't serious or anything major. It did not give any permanent damage. So you just kind of shrug it off ad move on.
Do you have any memories or any instances in the film that you can share with us?
It is probably the smell of burning hair. I spent ten days running through fire and everything got burnt off. Even the hair on my hands was not spared.
