He has the looks...and the versatility...and after ROCK ON, Purab Kohli has proved that he is in Bollywood 'to stay'. The new stud of Bollywood in conversation with our Correspondent on his next release YEH MERA INDIA.What is YEH MERA INDIA (YMI) all about?
This N Chandra film's story deals with racial bias, communal bias, caste bias, class bias, gender bias, lingual bias and immigrant bias that plaque the today's society and the outcome is startling. It is the human ability to redeem him at any given moment which reveals that behind every bad news there is good news. It is a story of one day in the life of 12 people from different strata of Mumbai city.
Do you think N Chandra's film will succeed as previous ones to leave an impact on the audience?
Certainly yes, the making of the film will influence the minds of people and force them to think about the ugly side of social conditions prevailing in the society.
What is your role in the film?
I play a son of a filthy rich family who is born with a silver spoon and golden plate. He is in love with Smilie Suri.
There are so many characters in the film. How much scope was there for each character?
When the script was narrated to all of us, we knew that the film stars around 12-13 characters and that's the need of the subject. Everyone has its role and significance. And I am very happy in what kind of work was assigned to me and what outcome the role has given to the subject.
How was the experience of working with a veteran N Chandra?
N Chandra is one of the most composed and calm directors I have ever come across. He is so easy-going yet so passionate about film-making and portraying his actions, thoughts and believe through his work.
Tell us about the most memorable or exciting scene of the film for you.
In many of the scenes live-recording has taken place. So during one of the live-recording between me and Smilie, when she got to know that it is going to be live recording, she became quiet nervous and stated mugging up the script. It was fun to watch.
And what about Smile Suri?
She is hard-working and equally dedicated towards her work and acting.
You started your film career with film BUS YUN HI. Tell us about it.
It was my first film which released in 2003. I worked with Nandita Das though the film did not do well but I enjoyed working in this film.
What kind of films are you looking to forward to act in?
I am looking forward to work in action-pack and romantic film which is absolute commercial flick with songs. After MY BROTHER NIKHIL I get offers of sensitive and serious type of roles.
What are your up-coming projects?
I have three untitled films under Moserbear, Priyadarshan and makers of BHEJA FRY.
