What is Aksar all about?

I have always wanted to make a suspense film, which is dark and brooding with a lot of black humour, something like the classic French noir style. And when we sat down to put the story together, we came up with some very interesting characters. You have Emran, who plays a wild photographer, then there is Udita, who plays a Diva, you have Dino who plays a very aristocratic Indian English man, and the story revolves around these three, and the little game that is played between them. In the course of time, something happens, something of their own making. Can they come out of it, or does the situation boomerang, come watch Aksar and find out. (Smiles)

Was the lead of the film your first choice while conceptualizing the movie?

Emran yes, because he has this devil-may-care-attitude look about himself, which went perfectly with his character, and though Dino has not done this kind of a role before, but he fitted the image of the character very well. We did approach Celina Jaitely to play the Diva, but unfortunately she did not have the dates, and eventually Udita got the role. But I'd say, what happens, happens for the best because Udita has given the movie her very best.

No matter how a Anant Mahadevan movie does, the music always seems to be a hit. And Aksar is no exception. Comment.

(Laughs) That's true. Music has always worked in all my films, and I am a music lover myself. When ever Himesh (Reshammiya) and I have come together, as far as the music is concerned, he has not just given me a one out of four, but a four out of four always! He makes sure all his songs are a hit, and not just one hit with the other numbers being your average fair.

So why should the audience go out and watch Aksar besides the fact that its music rocks?

(Laughs) I'll tell you this little amusing incidence to answer that. I was narrating the script to Sameer to get the feeling right for the lyrics, and at the end of the narration, he told me, "It's a wonderful script, which Hollywood movie is it a take off from?!" (Laughs) I found that really humbling because it is not a "take off" on any Hollywood flick, it's an original attempt, and unlike your regular Bollywood movies where everyone tends to go over the top, then be it with performances or dialogues, with Aksar, you will find even the dialogues very conversational. It's a gripping story and we are all excited over its release, lets hope the audience finds this reason enough to come and enjoy the film themselves!
