You have a natural gift for comedy. What is the root of that?

Well, the root of that is in the roles that I have managed to get. They have been crafted very well. I love playing Circuit, because he's so funny. I mean, when I first read the script of Munnabhai MBBS I was in splits each time Circuit was there. He is truly an amazingly character.

Did you ever imagine Munnabhai would be so big?

No, I don't think anyone did. I noticed how big it was while shooting for the title song of Lage Raho Munnabhai. We were shooting on the streets of Mumbai and people just surrounded the area, cheering. I thought it was all for Sanju, so I congratulated him. But when he said, this is not for me and you, I realized this crowd was for Munna and Circuit, not Sanjay and Arshad.

How does Circuit compare to the other characters you have played earlier?

Circuit is in a class of his own. He, like Munnabhai, is very innocent and totally loyal. There is an innate honesty to him. He cares a lot for Munna and that relates to real life. I really do care a lot for Sanju. We're good friends. I mean any character that is as realistic as Circuit is easy to play for an actor. Circuit's emotions and antics are very realistic and things that you and I or anyone would do.

Tell us a little about Lage Raho Munnabhai?

It's better that you watch the film, rather than hear anything from me. It will meet your expectations and more.

Who will the film appeal to?

Absolutely everyone from kids to adults to senior citizens. You rarely find a film that does this. And I'm privileged to be part of a film like this.

Are you worried about the sky-high expectations surrounding the film?

Not really. I believe in the film as do Raju and Vinod. The script is much stronger than MBBS, and is bigger than that. Even in terms of my character, I think Lage Raho Munnabhai gives far more scope.

What was it like teaming with Sanjay Dutt again?

Working with Sanju is such a great experience. He is so experienced and truly charming and a fun guy. We have a great relationship off the set as well so it really helps when you have to be best friends on screen.

Do you have a favourite moment in Lage Raho Munnabhai?

Well, In fact, my favourite moment was also my least favourite moment. For the song, Samjho Ho Gaya, Shantanu, our music director, and Raju, actually had me sing. It really freaked me out. I really thought Shantanu was out to ruin his own career. I'm a terrible singer. Even my wife kept calling Raju and warning him of my incredible lack of singing talent. But since the director asked me to do it, I braced up towards it, thinking that since Sanju has sung before, I would have to do just some dialogues and Sanju would take care of the rest. It was just the opposite. I did all the singing. But it was a really fun experience for me and maybe I have found a way to survive if I flop as an actor.
