In a world that rushes around madly to watch silly and cheap imitations of old Hollywood and Bollywood movies, melodramas and stupid, action oriented though technically sound films, Aaja Nachle comes across as a breath of fresh air. And it is not just about the Madhuri magic, which expectedly continues to enthrall the audience…. the entire package is truly superb. The story line, the star cast, the cinematography, the music, the choreography, the costumes and what have you. Everything is just right. There is not a single superfluous character. Everyone is where they should be and doing exactly what they should be doing. The actors fit into their role like soul into a body. Though the story is set in a small town, which by the way comes completely alive in its setting, there is none of the exaggeration that one sees in typical Hindi movies. Though the movie’s main protagonist is Diya, rules the silver screen, she is never domineering. The aspect of “theatre” is reproduced extremely successfully and the movie never falters in its pace. In fact the intensity that is built up during the climax of the humble “Laila Majnu” tale is so real that it involves the audience inside the silver screen and out. I doubt if anything like this has ever been attempted in Hindi cinema before. The pace of the movie is fast and never boring. The entire team of Aaja Nachle deserves a huge applause for bringing such a fantastic treat to the ‘art’ starved audience. A pity that the movie is not doing so well at the Box Office…but then what else can one expect from an audience that cannot appreciate the finer nuances of good cinema…. Hats Off…Anil Mehta, Madhuri and the entire cast & crew of Aaja Nachle….!!! And of course Madam Madhuri has made a smashing come back!!
