Black Friday is based on S Hussain Zaidis book Black Friday, which depicted the Mumbai bomb blasts of March 12, 1993 and the shocking, violent events of that fateful day.
Bollywood has never been known for producing docu-dramas. So, Black Friday, with its realistic take on the Mumbai bomb blasts and the police investigation that followed is like a much needed whiff of fresh air.
Anurag Kashyap seems heavily inspired by the style of Gillo Ponticurvo whose 'Battle of Algiers' in the 60s set the standard for reality in movies that document political conflicts. The music score by Indian Ocean is an added plus - with 'Bandeh' being one of the best songs to have come out of this part of the world in quite some time.
Battle of Algiers, anyone?
