The movie set in the backdrop of militancy in the North- east , gave ample scope for both shahrukh and manisha to perform and they did perform. Shahrukh as the modern journo cum love struck youngster and Manisha as a female terrorist. Shahrukh tries every possible stunt to make Manisha falll for him and manisha is superb as the girl with a task who cannot wean away from her girl and apna dimple girl priety in a cameo as Shahrukh's bride tobe, Maniratnam as usual is superb and manages to touch a chord with the audience but the music of the film and its lyrics are the movies biggest asset. A wonderful film.

It's a love story in the backdrop of North-east militancy. A girl who has seen too much too early- moulded into a hard-core terrorist meets an urban romantic dreamy eyed journalist at a railway station & then follows a self destructive journey, self effacing attraction. Frequently deserted & illuded by her, the boy still try to see a spark of tender feelings in her. But whatever remnants of it left in her , is suppressed & overwhelmed by the sense of purpose. His attraction is used by her to attain her target. He pursue a fatal route to follow her. Both Maneesha & SRK are at their best. SRK Not for his style- but his inner core actor. And Mannesha too. It is the excellent direction of Mani Ratnam which takes you from valley of love to the terrains of death. The music is haunting. Combination of Gulzar with ARR is tumultous.
