Golmaal was a surprise when it released both in terms of hit music and the fact that the film also went on to be a strong hit with the audiences as. While Gomaal was a relatively small film, Golmaal Returns is a much bigger film, with a bigger cast including super star Kareena Kapoor along with three more leading ladies (Amrita Arora, Celina Jaitley and Anjana Sukhani) while Shreyas Talpade has replaced Sharman Joshi. Another difference is that while Golmaal was composed by Vishal Shekhar and had a heavy hip hop influence; Golmaal Returns has been composed by everyone's current favourite, Pritam. While the expectations from Golmaal were not too high, it set the bar for the sequel and all the hype and the bigger cast have surely created huge expectations from Golmaal Returns.
Just like the original, even this album starts with a hip hop number Tha Kar Ke which interestingly has not been composed by Pritam, but by Ashish Pandit. This is one of those songs that has you tapping your feet from the first beat and is the perfect chartbuster for a film like Golmaal Returns the lyrics don't make too much sense but that doesn't matter since after all it's just about having fun and this song is truly fun unlimited. Neeraj Shridhar who is the king of songs like this is joined by Anvesha, Aakariti, Earl and Indie. Everything about the song is fun, lively and it is a definite chartbuster.
Vacancy has bits of the 'Golmaal golmaal everythings gonna be golmaal' from Golmaal. Even this track has a heavy hip hop influence just like Tha Kar Ke and even this is a foot tapping number which will make you want to get up and dance. Sung by Neeraj, Benny, Suhail and Suzy Q (with Anushka Manchanda singing the original track), again the lyrics are no too important yet you will have the main lines "Is there a vacancy, for somebody like me" stay with you while you hum the song later, which you surely will. It's not the type of song you may remember for years to come, but right now, it's a fun, foot tapping song which will join Tha Kar Ke on the music charts.
After listening to two hit songs, Tu Saala is a disappointment when it starts but the moment Anushka Manchanda gets to singing "tu saala kaam se gaya" you starting getting into the song. Unlike the previous two tracks, this one is good in parts and average in others, in spite of essentially being another dance number. The traditional Indian arrangements are quite interesting especially since until now we have heard mostly a hip hop influence.
Meow will surely be picturized on Kareena Kapoor and has been sung by Suzy Q and Monali. A very good mixed usage of English and Hindi lyrics, this too is another dance number but an overall better composition and arrangements without the typical dance beats. A seductive and sensuous song, Kareena will set the screen on fire and overall the song is also a great listen as well. There is a full English version which follows and it is equally as good as this song. In fact you are slightly disappointed when you realize that the album is technically over because the next tracks which follow are remixes of each of the songs followed by songs from the original Golmaal.
The songs of Golmaal Returns are not the type that will become classics and remain with people for years post the film's release but then that clearly is not the objective. All four of the songs have the potential to be chartbusters and will surely find strong liking amongst Generation X especially because the songs have a great fusion blend. The only disappointing factor is the fact that the album only has four songs.
