Mimoh is the latest star kid to enter the industry. After many delays, his debut film, Jimmy, directed by Raj N. Sippy is finally ready for release. There has been an obvious attempt to play up to actor Mithun Chakraborty's hit cult film of the eighties, Disco Dancer, where the veteran actor's character was called Jimmy. Also, music composer Bappi Lahiri's son Bappa wields the baton for a couple of numbers in Jimmy, trying to do for the son, what his father did for Mithun in many a film. The main composer of the film, however, remains Anand Raj Anand. The album has its moments, but for the better part, the music is quite mediocre.

The album begins with a number called ' Why not Jimmy' sung by Shaan. Its music has been composed by Anand Raj and its lyrics have been written by Ranbir Pushp. This is quite a lively, foot tapping number with Shaan's rendition giving it a fresh and young feel. The song begins with a rap rendition before Shaan takes over.

Shaan continues the good work in the album's second number as well, ' Do Minute Mein'. The music for this has been composed by Bappa with lyrics by Virag Mishra. The number sees the predominance of percussion elements. It is a fairly decent number, whose appeal is enhanced by Shaan's rendition.

The Punjabi element makes its way into the album with ' Jeevan Bulliyan Pe' composed, written and sung by Anand Raj Anand. A Sufi track, it showcases the talent of the composer but could have done with a stronger rendition, maybe by a Sukhwinder Singh. Anand's vocals are a bit of a letdown as he is unable to bring out the subtle nuances inherent in the song.

Bappa's second composition in the album, ' Marhaba' is also a bit of letdown. Sung by Debojit, the lyrics have been written by Virag Mishra. The music arrangement is interesting and the song is a throwback to the disco fever of the eighties. This number too sees an overdose of the precussion element. It's problem lies in its rendition. Debojit tries a little too hard but fails to strike the right balance. He seems to go overboard with his over enthusiastic rendition. The song would have fared better with a more seasoned singer and a little more restrain on the part of the composer.

Kailash Kher's much awaited entry in the album with the number ' Zamane Se Keh Do,' turns out to be quite disappointing. This is the second song in the album with a Sufi touch to it. One would have expected that Kailash would sail through the number. But somehow this composition by Anand Raj Anand fails to take off and even an exceptional singer like Kailash sounds mediocre. The lyrics too, written by Ranbir Pushp, are also quite ordinary. ' Yeh Hai Meri Dastaan' composed and sung by Vijay Mehra is a another non starter. The proverbial ' sad' song of the album, it does not have much to recommend it.

But the album ends on a bright note with Kunal Ganjawala lending his voice to ' Aaya Hoon.' It seems that Anand Raj Anand finally strikes gold with this number. It is the last number in the album and easily the best. Ganjawala is able to impart his special touch to this number and prevent it from being labeled mediocre. The number makes for pleasant hearing. This number along with Shaan's two numbers, should do fairly well.

Jimmy's music is quite disappointing. Any intention to play up the on likeness to Mithun's Disco Dancer may just backfire. The Eighties flick created a sensation with its music. Jimmy, on the other hand, cannot boast of that advantage. Its music is not catchy enough to set a trend.
