Kambakkht Ishq Movie Review

KAMBAKKHT ISHQ is Bollywood of the 90s ('leave your brains behind', 'where's the script dude?' kind of stuff) with the gloss, glamour and technical expertise afforded of the current scenario. Lot's of Tashan! It is a platform for Akshay to yet again prove his 'stunt status', enacting a role of a stuntman in Hollywood and also his love for buffoonery. For a role, he plays a MCP of the highest order. Opposing him is Kareena Kapoor playing Bebo (now she even has a song to her name), who plays an even bigger WCB (guess what it means?) if there was ever a term like that. Together they meet in a most bizarre situation and from then on, go on meeting to set up comic, and an even a bizarre situation where Akshay is operated upon by her and is left with a watch in his belly. An auditorium full of people can hear the hourly alarm ring from deep within his guts! To support the two in their quest to prove 'I'm bigger than you' is Vindoo Dara Singh, Aftab Shivdasani and Amrita Arora, who gets to enact her real life friendship with Bebo, on screen. There's also Jaaved Jaffery who is happy in the ''Land of opportunities'', that's what he calls America throughout the movie. According to him, he began suing even before he started making su su (started peeing). His words, not mine! Why? Because the doctor who aided in his birth patted him on the butt and he started crying. His father had no option but to sue the doctor, ''Who cried all his life.'' That's his dialogue, not my line! Apart from the gloss and dollops of glamour, there are also some stupid, mindless scenes, which challenge your mental stability. In one scene, a person even lets off wind bang in front of Amrita Arora's face. This, on her wedding day! The first 15 minutes or so are palatable, after that, it gets monotonous and you wonder when this nightmare will end. Of course, there are a few scenes where Akshay proves his flair for comedy but not enough to rationalize the madness that unfolds in front of you on the giant screen. Kareena puts life in a lifeless plot. Take her away and you will be left fuming 'Kambakkht' to director Sabbir Khan (no relative of Kabir Khan whose NEW YORK released last week). I don't see any actor putting so much zing in a role that's dead as a dodo. Hats off to you Bebo! Rating - 1.5/5
