Really this movie helps non-muslims in understanding the real attitude of muslims. Because of the radicals ,everybody who practices the religion are blamed or suspected.
But the fact is ISLAM LOVES PEACE AND WANT ITS FOLLOWERS TO LIVE PEACEFULLY AMONG FELLOW CITIZENS
Great concept, excruciatingly bad execution
The younger brother helps his long long uncle to marry off his British-born muslim daughter, Mary (Mariam), within the Islamic community by marrying her in a remote village of Afghanistan and staying there. He then forcefully has a child with her so that she would accept her fate with him and not try to run away.
The older brother who goes to America falls in love with a white American girl, Angela, and marries her. One day his Sikh neighbor loses a family member to some terrorist incident and he starts yelling at Mansoor of being a terrorist. Meanwhile, hearing this their white neighbor informs the police of the incident. The police then instead of looking for the truth, basically just kidnap him (by chloroforming his wife????) while they are asleep and try to beat the truth out of him about his links to the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden.
The story ends to show what happens to the three(?, yes three, Mary is planning her escape all the while) main protagonists in the movie. The movie has horrible and very amateur acting (maybe directing?) , horrible make-up and very ridiculous story following. While Mansoor is being beaten up by the CIA or whoever in the US of A, the parents are not at all concerned him being missing for such a long time and that he's not making or returning phone calls as they are busy trying to figure out where Farmad is. Even after having such loving parents, the son does not even bother informing (let alone inviting) them about his wedding to Angela. And Angela is shown to be such a dimwit who does not even consult a lawyer to get her husband out of jail or wherever that he was. And after all the torture that the American govt put Mansoor through, the worst fate that they decide for him is to send him back to Pakistan, well, couldnt they have done it in the first place? instead of wasting their resources and money in trying to make this guy out to be a terrorist when he's not without evidence, all the time risking him suing them for wrongful detaining and torture???
The movie is LONG and wastes a lot of time unnecessarily building up characters. They should have gone for quality rather than quantity.
I am a big fan of movies which differ from the conventional boy meet girl fairytales and do give this movie credit for having an OK storyline but I wish the movie was shorter and tastefully directed. Not a movie you waster your precious time to go to the theater to watch, I would suggest waiting for the DVD and renting it out if you are so desperate to see the movie so that you can fast forward to the very end.
