The music album of Love Story 2050 assumes significance as the film sees the launch of newcomer Harman Baweja, in a spectacularly mounted, sci fi romantic movie. With Harman's father, filmmaker Harry Baweja leaving no stone unturned to ensure his son's success, one has great expectations from the film's music. To a large extend, the music of Love Story 2050 lives upto expectations. Music director Anu Malik again reveals that one cannot afford to write him off. He yet has a lot up to his sleeve. In tandem with lyricist Javed Akhtar, he manages to weave a melodious musical score.
The album opens with a bang with Shaan belting out 'Milo Na Milo'. The song brings out Malik's forte in marrying Indian melody with western arrangements. The opening music and rhythm bit is quite irresistible. Shaan gives the song the necessary punch. His rendition is absolutely bang on and quite flawless. As Harman's introductory number, there couldn't have been a better choice. The funky electronic beats add to the song's energy and this one is a sure winner.
Kay Kay and Alka Yagnik make their appearance in the album with the next number, titled Meelon Ka. This number comes in two parts, a sad and a happy version. Both have been arranged by Salim Suleiman. The sad version occurs first. Both versions have been sung impeccably by Yagnik and Kay Kay. In fact, this is one of the better numbers of this album. It has been exquisitely composed and Kay Kay captures the somber mood of the song superbly. Hats off to Javed saab for penning such a touching and poignant song. Yagnik too moulds her voice superbly to the emotions of the song and her alaaps are something to watch out for. Both versions work very well.
Shaan came back with the track 'Love Story' which too has to appear in two versions, happy and sad. Shaan excels again in his rendition of both versions. This too is a number which is high on melody. Malik scores yet again as delivers a true blue romantic number. Shaan is the perfect voice for this soulful number and proves yet again how versatile he is as a singer. Kunal Ganjawala renders the next song of the album, 'Sach Kehna.' The number is a fast paced, peppy number which should set the dance floor on fire. It has suitably youthful appeal and is another winner by Malik.
After such a promising beginning, the next two tracks in the album. 'Lover Boy' and 'Aa Gaya Hoon Main' are fairly mediocre. 'Lover Boy' sees one time sworn enemies Alisha Chinoy and Malik coming together. This number has quite a retro feel to it and has belted out with enough sensuality by Chinoy but fails to strike a chord. It's the same story for the Kay Kay rendered track, 'Aa Gaya Hoon Main.' The rendition seems to lack power for the song to have any kind of effect.
Thankfully, the album ends on a mellifluous note with Shaan and Yagnik coming together again for a number titled 'Mausam Achanak'. It's another number which is high on melody and makes for a lovely romantic track. Both singers do a wonderful job of enhancing the wonderful lyrics and the melodious score, with their impeccable rendition.
The music of Love Story 2050 is quite a delight. Malik does a marvelous job of creating a score which is universal in its appeal. Melody is something which never goes out of fashion and he proves it again with the score for this film. Barring a couple of mediocre numbers, the music of Love Story 2050 maintains its youthful, peppy feel without loosing out on melody. This music should see Malik back on top of the heap.
