Director Prem Soni's debut venture Main Aur Mrs Khanna is all set to hit the marquee very soon. The film which stars Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Preity Zinta and Sohail Khan, promises to be loads of fun. The music of the movie too seems to bear out this assumption as it packs in loads of entertainment and balances it out with soft melodious tracks as well. Its music has been composed by Salman favourites, Sajid Wajid, with the lyrical output coming from Jalees Shervani, Arun Bhairav and Junaid Warsi. The album of Main Aur Mrs Khanna consists of five original songs along with their remixes, and at least three of these numbers should find a place among the chartbusters.
The album kicks off with the number 'Don't say Alvida,' which has been sung by Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal and Suzanne D'Mello. This is a good opening number, as it is a soft, romantic track with Sonu and Shreya quite in their element. This is just the kind of song that they excel in as it allows them room to use their vocal histrionics. Of course, all of it is soft and underplayed as it is a romantic number. Sajid Wajid seem to have really got it right with this number which is refreshingly melodious and extremely catchy. The biggest plus where this number is concerned is the combination of Sonu and Shreya. It has a short (a minute and a half) 'sad' version sung by Shreya, which is equally touching and appealing. The remix too manages to retain the original mood of the song. In fact, one would not be mistaken in saying that this is probably the best number in the album.
The second number in the album is called 'Happening' and it occurs in a remixed version as well. The song has been sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, Wajid, Uvie, Farhad and Raja Mushtaq and written by Shervani. The initial impression about it being an English number are expelled soon enough, but the 'Happening' phrase is used in a very catchy manner throughout the song. The song opens on Sunidhi's voice with Wajid joining her soon enough. Both singers acquit themselves well. But this lively number actually stands out because of Sunidhi's bold rendition and she is quite the soul of this number. Its remixed version is just as much fun and both versions of the song are likely to be lapped up quite eagerly.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan graces the album with a number titled 'Rabba, 'the lyrics of which have been penned by Shervani. This is a soulful and philosophic number which has been impeccably rendered by the Ustad. This slow number may not make it to the charts but it is definitely very effective as the words, the music, and style of rendition are in prefect sync with each other.
'Tum Ne Socha,' sees Wajid taking to the microphone again, with Shreya keeping him company. The song has been written by Arun Bhairav and it is a very pleasant sounding duet. Shreya is pitch perfect and she combines well with Wajid in this track. The composer gets a better chance to showcase his talent as a singer in this song than in the quwali where he was totally overshadowed by Sunidhi. Shreya's voice is much more compliant and gives him a chance to make an impact.
The album ends with the fun number 'Mrs Khanna'. This number has been sung primarily by Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan with others like Bappi Lahiri, Neuman Pinto and Suzanne D'Mello pitching in as well. This is one peppy number with a playful rhythm, loud dhol beats and loads of entertainment value in the manner in which it has been sung. Its picturisation is likely to add to the fun element of the number.
Sajid Wajid have done a very fine job with Main Aur Mrs Khanna as they have managed to strike a perfect balance between music and entertainment. At least three of the five numbers, 'Don't say Alvida, Happening and Mrs Khanna', are bound to feature among the chartbusters. The album definitely makes for very pleasant hearing because of the manner in which the composers have managed to balance popular demand and good music.
