The music of Mr White Mr Black has been composed by three music directors, Jatin Lalit, Tauseef Akhtar and Shamir Tandon respectively with lyrics by Sameer. The presence of three composers on the roster does succeed in giving the movie's music album many different sounds, but not all of it is very musical. On the whole the album is a mediocre one, with none of the numbers creating much of an impact. There are a total of ten songs in the album, remixes included, and only a couple are hummable. The quality of the lyrics also varies, tilting more on the mediocre side though.
The album brings with a number called 'Tu Makke De Roti' sung by Daler Mehndi, his brother Mika and Asha Bhonsle. The music of this number has been composed by Shamir Tandon. It has a remix version as well. Daler and Mika seem quite at home with the song as it has a certain Punjabi touch to it besides the Makke Di Roti bit. What is surprising is the presence of Asha Bhonsle. The diva has hardly anything to do in this number besides croon a couple of lines which are ineffectual. Her presence adds no value to the song. 'Tu Makke Di Roti' is Daler and Mika's song and as such comes across as quite catchy. The remix version retains the catchy element in the song.
Sukhwinder Singh and Vasundhara Das come together for the second song called 'Teetar' which is composed by Tauseef Akhtar. This too has a remixed version. The song has a very simple melody to it and very simple lyrics which works in its favour. The singers do a commendable job with the song and it sounds quite pleasant.
The Samundar number occurs thrice in the album. The first comes as a duet between Neeraj Shridhar and Suzzanne D'Mello. It lacks punch but it still come across as better than the all female duet between Shweta Mohanty and Suzzanne D'Mello. In fact, it is the remixed version of the song, composed by Jatin Lalit, which is the pick of the lot. The remix adds a certain interesting element to this otherwise very mediocre number.
Kunal Ganjawala's Namasteji composed by Akhtar is another catchy number. It has an easy refrain and the singer breezes through the song which does not demand much from him. Jatin Lalit come into their own finally with a number called 'Ek Dil Ki' which is sung by Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik and Shaan. This is the one song in the album which has it all, melody and decent lyrics. It makes the singer's job that much easier and all three vocalists give a superb rendition and make this the most pleasing song of the album.
'Behna Ki Shaadi,' which is sung by Sonu Nigam and Shailendra, is also one of the better songs in this album. Its music has been composed by Akhtar, who makes a decent outing in this album with two good numbers in 'Teetar' and 'Behna Ki Shaadi.' Sonu gives a flawless rendition of this song. Akhtar gives the song a slightly traditional touch which goes well with the emotional mood of the song. Shailendra too does a good job. Both singers convey the bitter sweet quality of the song. In fact, it is these two numbers, Behna Ki Shaadi and Ek Dil Ki which impart a certain grace and dignity to the album.
The ploy by the film's makers to use three different composers for the album does not really work in the album's favour. There is variety but since most of the numbers are average sounding, it is a ploy which backfires. Barring two numbers, the rest of the tracks in Mr White Mr Black will probably not endure beyond the first hearing.
