The season has seen an overdose of comedies. And the unfortunate thing is that the laughter quotient keeps decreasing with every film. The latest casualty is Mr White Mr Black, which fails to evoke any kind of laughter. Even the presence of the likes of Arshad Warsi, does nothing to tickle the funny bone. Directed by Deepak Shivdasani, Mr White Mr Black is a clueless and mindless caper, which cannot be labeled as a comedy.

The film's story is about two brothers, Gopi (Suniel Shetty), our Mr White, and Kishen (Arshad Warsi), our Mr Black. Gopi, is a simpleton who has come all the way from Hoshiarpur to Goa in search of Kishen, who is a conman. Gopi has come to hand over a piece of land to Kishen and take him back home. But Kishen is not interested in going back to Hoshiarpur. He is concerned with getting his hands on some diamonds, worth Rs 25 crores, which have been stolen by a gang of girls, who are in Goa currently. The diamonds belong to a don (Ashish Vidyarthi) and almost everybody in film is after them. Even Gopi joins the chase and becomes part of the general mayhem. Kishen earns his livelihood by hoodwinking others and has even tricked his girlfriend, played by Rashmi Nigam, into believing that the conman is his twin brother. Gopi's love interest is the daughter of a rich resort owner in Goa.

The film has a fairly decent opening with the first scene depicting a heist committed by a gang of three girls. But after that the film plunges into an abyss of cliches, as it has a plot which is going nowhere. Its biggest flaw is that it has no proper script or screenplay. The writers of the film have decided to rely on cliches and the presence of Arshad to carry the film through, which is hardly fair to the actor. It's not that there is no humour in the film, but what there is, is mostly imbecile and the slap stick type. There are a few witty moments and some funny gags in the movie, but they are too few to make any overall impact.

It is sad to see an actor like Arshad Warsi wasted in a role like this. The actor tries valiantly to keep the show going but he receives absolutely no help from the film's writers. Never a great actor, Suniel Shetty hams his way through as the simpleton Gopi. The females, Rashmi Nigam and Anishka Khosla have nothing much to do but simper, which they do well enough. Ashish Vidyarthi, a very talented actor, also seems wasted in the role of a don. In his bid to be funny, he overacts. The film's music is just about mediocre and adds no value to the movie.

In short, Mr White Mr Black does not work. There is nothing fresh in the film in terms of content or presentation. The rehash formula fails to work this time and the film is likely to go down with a whimper.
