As if Dombivali Fast wasn't impressive enough!

Nishikant Kamat steps out of Marathi regional cinema and onto the big stage of Bollywood with a promising directorial debut in Mumbai Meri Jaan... a film that is similar (although less intense) to the essence of Ram Gopal Varma's "Satya."

Mumbai Meri Jaan should be praised for its performances, especially that of Paresh Rawal (who gives the greatest performance of his career). Soha Ali Khan, Vijay Maurya, and Kay Kay Menon are also impressive but Rawal steals the show. The film circles around the Mumbai train blasts and takes a "Babel"-style approach in showing how a single event affects the lives of many. The script has some holes that could have been avoided but for being an original scripts props should be given to Kamat (who's Dombivali Fast was a full Indian take on Michael Douglas's "Falling Down").

Mumbai Meri Jaan should represent itself well come awards time but it will most likely lose out to Neeraj Pandey's "A Wednesday"

Go and watch Mumbai Meri Jaan for acting and crisp editing... but dont expect it to be as masterly crafted as "Satya."
