We do not know about Singh being King but Akshay Kumar is been riding high on his four hits last year. But this year he is yet to have a release. Hence the anticipation and expectations around the release of Singh Is Kinng are tremendous. The music of the film has been composed by the hit composer Pritam, whose has already tasted success this year with Jannat and Race. The lyrics of this film, produced by Vipul Shah, have been written by Mayur Puri, while film has been directed by Anees Bazmee.
The album opens literally with a bang, with the title song 'Singh Is Kinng'. This is a RDB track sung by Snoop Dogg and Akshay Kumar. ond chartbuster, with its rhythm and amalgamation of Western and Indian musical idioms.. The song is power packed and is almost like an anthem, in the manner in which it has been composed. Akshay too adds his bit in the middle of the song.
After this number, it is Pritam all the way as he goes ahead keeping the Punjabi flavour of the film in mind. The second song of the album, the first of Pritam's compositions in the film, is a number called 'Jee Karda,' which is sung by Labh Jan Jua and Suzie.Q, who adds her bit in English. The Punjabi tadka is turned on with this number and continues right through the album. Labh is the life of the song and he really lifts the number with his high voltage singing. Suzie.Q manages to hold her end. It's remixed version, created by Hyacinth adds even more verve to the song.
The next track on this album is Pritam's version of the title track. It is called 'Bas Ek Kinng' and is sung by Mika Singh, Neerja Shridhar, Ashish Pandit and Hard Kaur. This is an upbeat thrilling track as well and sounds just as good as the Snoop Dogg version. The remixed version, which is called the Tiger style mix, is even peppier.
But the real Punjabi stuff begins with the next number called 'Bhootni Ke' sung by Daler Mehendi. This song comes in two other versions. This is traditional and very catchy indeed. This song seems to be seeped in the soil of Punjab. This one is definitely a winner from the word go. DJ Amyth comes with a remixed version, also sung by Daler, which makes the song sound absolutely apt even for the dance floors. There is Tiger style mix as well of this number, which is sung by Mika. This version too carries a punch. But the real winner is the Daler version. Neeraj Shridhar and Labh Janjua come together to sing the number 'Talli Hua'. This is fairly decent number but it lacks the vigour and catchy quality of the previous songs. It comes with a Jay Dhabi Mix, with Style Bhai coming in with his rap.
The most irresistible number in this album after 'Bhootni Ke' is perhaps 'Tere Ore' sung by Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shreya Ghoshal. The number is absolutely different from anything that went before or anything that comes after. Simple lyrics, exquisite music and excellent vocals by both singers are the hallmarks of this song. Shreya seems to be growing with every song that she sings. She is perfection itself in this song, specially the manner in which she delivers the refrain 'Tere Ore'. In this romantic number, she outdoes an accomplished singer like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, who incidentally delivers a top notch performance as it would be on. This exquisite song is definitely a winner by Pritam. One really looks forward to the manner in which the song is picturised in the movie. The remixed version, a lounge mix by Clinton and Eric Pillai, works very well too, retaining the flavour and mood of the song.
The album of the Singh Is Kinng is definitely one of the highs of Pritam's career. It's amazing, the manner in which he managed to capture the Punjabi flavour for this album. His music has Punjab written all over it. It has something for everyone, beginning with dance numbers to a soft romantic number. The songs should all do extremely well. Once the film is out, they should receive a further boost. Pritam has done a wonderful job on this one. Full credit to him for this album.
