Woodstock Villa, the forthcoming film from the house of White Feather Films, will see another star son, Sikander Kher being launched along with Neha Oberoi. The film's music has been composed by Anu Malik. The guest composers of the album have been Shibani Kashyap and Bappa Lahiri. The lyrics have been written by Virag Mishra. In all, the music album of Woodstock Villa has nine numbers, including two club remixes. Barring a couple of numbers, the album is just about average.
The album begins with Aanchal Datta Bhatia's rendition of 'Dhoka'. This number has a club remix as well, which has been credited to Nikhil Chinapa and DJ Naved. The number begins with music which is very reminiscent of the suspense thrillers of the sixties and seventies. This music continues right into the song, imparting ominous overtones to the song. Aanchal gives a punchy rendition of the song. It is quite a fast paced number. It promises to make for some interesting viewing. The remixed version too works quite well.
The second number in the album sees Malik recreating the Mika number, 'Sawan Main Lag Gayee Aag', which has a remixed version as well. It retains the robust quality of the original. Mika is on familiar territory and sails through the song. This was one of Mika's hit numbers and should do well all over again, in both the normal and the remixed version.
The Aryans make an entry in the album with their number, 'Kyun' also written by them. The number has been recreated by Bappa Lahiri. This number makes for good listening as it is fairly catchy.
The next number is a romantic duet between Aanchal Datta Bhatia and Shaan. The song, 'Yeh Pyaar Hai,' has a soft beginning before it opens out in a flourish. Shaan is a treat to hear in this song, in the manner in which he punctuates the sing with subtle nuances. Aanchal provides good support. This is one of the better songs of this album.
'Koi Chala Ja Raha Hai' in Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's voice is perhaps, musically, perhaps the best song in the album along with the previous, 'Yeh Pyaar Hai'. The number is a melancholic, slow number, with philosophic overtones. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has a wonderful voice and he renders the song to the best of his ability. But despite being composed well, this number is unlikely to figure high in the popularity charts.
The next two numbers in the album have been composed and sung by Shibani Kashyap. The numbers are quite typical of the singer. There are no surprises in store for the listener as Shibani refuses to experiment and do something different. Both are the same kind of club songs, if one can call them that. Neither ''Rakh Ho Ja Tu,' or 'Dhoka Dega' are worth recommending. Shibani has a good voice but she always sounds the same, the seductive siren. There is no surprise element at all. Also, the songs are not catchy enough, and therefore cannot be expected to fare well.
The music of Woodstock Villa is of your average kind. Malik does not display any special spark with his music. It sounds quite average with little recollect value.
