After all the gimmicks, hype and publicity, Singh Is Kinng has finally released. The film, which had been produced by Vipul Shah and directed by Anees Bazmee, was apparently released in a huge number of shows at the multiplexes, with there being more than 20 shows at certain multiplexes.
The response was not very good as well, with the opening day collections touching between 70 and 80 per cent in Mumbai. Where the rest of India is concerned, the film is expected to do very well in the North, specially Punjab and Delhi. Even though the film's producer is reported to have already made a huge profit, its distributors will need the film to run before well for a good couple of weeks to make their money. But there are doubts about whether the film will be able to keep it up. Last week's release, Ugly Aur Pagli, had a good initial but seems to have slumped. The film is doing best in the metros. Next week will see two movies clashing at the box office. Yash Raj Films' Bachna Ae Haseeno, directed by Siddharth Anand and starring Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone and Minissha Lamba will be clashing with Rumi Jafrey's God Tussi Great Ho starring Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra.
