It's been said before, but it seems that our filmmakers these days are quite defunct of ideas. What else could be the reason behind television actor now turned director Rohit Roy's decision to direct a remake of the 1981 Basu Chatterjee classic Shaukeen.

Chatterjee's film starred Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt and AK Hangal. And it seems that the film's producer and director have actors Rishi Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah and Boman Irani on their wishlist to play the roles of the three old men in the remake. The original's producer IK Behl's son is believed to have turned producer with the remix. Since the film's rights were with the director, he is believed to have persuaded Chatterjee to part with the rights and allow him to do a remake. Work on the film has started. Of course, it is all in the pre production stage now. According to Rohit, he is still working on the film's script. In fact, this actor turned director made his directorial debut with Sanjay Gupta's White Feather Films, for whom he had directed one story in the film Dus Kahaaniyaan. His first full fledged film as director is also with the same banner. It is supposed to be an action drama and only when he has completed work on this one will be move on to the Shaukeen remix. For those who came in late, Shaukeen, directed by Chatterjee, is a story of three old men who are rather fond of their drinks, their cigarettes and women. But not being able to indulge in their pleasures at home, they decide to hire a car and go to Goa for a holiday. Anyway, it seems that Rohit has said that Shaukeen, along with the Hrishikesh Mukherjee classic Chupke Chupke been has also been reported saying that Shaukeen and the Hrishikesh Mukherjee classic Chupke Chupke are his all time favourite films. Well, we just hope that Chupke Chupke is not next on his wish list. Somethings, especially some films, are best left where they are. They need no remix.
