Strange as it may sound, but the fact is that People Pictures' 99 managed to surprise one and all with its excellent performance at the box office. And that at the height of the multiplexes versus producers-distributors face off! In fact the performance is all the more creditable because 99 started on a slow note but improved as the days progressed.

Just to get an idea about the rock steady run of the Vinod Khanna, Kunal Khemu, Soha Ali Khan, Boman Irani and Cyrus Broacha starrer, one has to look at the week wise Indian collections. While 99 grossed 7.25 crore during its first week, it was 4.85 crore in second week, followed by 3.85 crore in the third week. The film has so far grossed INR 17.07 crore world - wide in three weeks (world - wide net box office = INR 12.17 Crore). Given the reasonable involved costs, 99 is a definite success for all concerned.
