Salman Khan has been sentenced for five years rigorous imprisonment by the Session’s Court in Jodhpur today for the Chinkara poaching case.
Apparently, Khan was shooting for a film in Hyderabad. He missed his flight to Jodhpur and failed to appear in time for his hearing. However, Salman's sister Alvira Khan was present in court.
The defence lawyer raised an objection that the court cannot pronounce the verdict if the accused is not present in Court. However, the judge cited provisions of CrPC under which it is permissible. The Jodhpur Sessions Court is not empowered to hear Salman’s bail plea so the actor will have to be in jail till his lawyers appeal in a higher court. Salman will be arrested unless he decides to surrender himself before the court.
Salman Khan was convicted on April 10, 2006 for hunting of two black bucks on September 28, 1998 during shoot of Sooraj Barjatya's film Hum Saath Saath Hain.
