The Ability Film Festival is an event organized since 2005 in Chennai. The International Disability Film Festival showcases the finest films from around the world. The concept behind organizing this festival is to sensitize people about disability and break down all stereotypes about disability.
This year, Ability Foundation is celebrating it's second year - "India International Disability Film Festival" from 5th - 8th October.
The highlights of this year’s festival are:
Twenty-five foreign films will be screened. The festival is open to all, though there will be various special facilities provided for the disabled. All the films will be captioned.
For the first time in India, the concept of audio description during the movie will be introduced - the changes in scenes and breaks between dialogues, will be described by a soft , low voice, so that the visually impaired will be able to "watch" the movie without missing a single frame.
Ability will also recreate the era of silent films on the closing day of the ceremony, "Shiraz", a Himansu Rai classic will be screened accompanied by live music (Sriram Parasuram).
In addition to the screening, the festival will also conduct a competition "60 seconds to Fame". The esteemed jury members will select the entries that run for up to 60 seconds which will be screened throughout the festival.
