The unit of Laaga Chunri Main Daag was replete with Bongs of all shapes and sizes beginning with director Pradeep Sarkar , actresses Jaya Bachchan, Konkona Sen Sharma and Rani Mukherjee. It is believed that most of Sarkar's assistants are either Bengali or have by now become well conversant in the language.
According to Sarkar, the casting was purely coincidental and not done deliberately. But he concedes that they had a lot of fun during the shoots everyone was forced to eat Bengali food. But one doubts if anyone was protesting, as it is common knowledge how delicious Bong food can be. And talking of the presence of Bongs, if Vidya Balan had not refused the role, Konkona would have never entered the picture. In fact Konkona has gone public and said that she is extremely happy that Vidya turned down the role. She also had lovely things to say about the camaraderie that was there on the sets of Laaga.
