Mumbai: It's brother versus brother in Bollywood this week, and it's playing out at the Bandra Metropolitan Court. Tuesday Oct 16 12:15 AM
Bollywood star Aamir Khan's younger sibling Faisal Khan showed up in court on Monday, accusing Aamir of applying force and insisting he undergo psychiatric treatment.
Faisal insists he is mentally stable and does not require any psychiatric help. He has also accused Aamir of forcing him into solitary confinement for months.
The Court, for its part, has ordered Faisal Khan to undergo a medical examination at JJ Hospital.
Faisal's mother Zeenat Khan, who filed a missing person's report at Bandra Police Station on Friday when Faisal went missing from their Pali Hill home, has said that Faisal is indeed mentally disturbed and does require hospitalisation. His father, film producer Tahir Hussain, meanwhile, says Faisal is mentally stable.
Tahir Hussain even signed a document vouching for Faisal's stable mental condition.
“The court hasn’t come to a conclusion whether he is suffering from mental illness or not. Therefore he should be sent be sent to JJ hospital or a government hospital for a medical examination, “ said Advocate for Faisal Khan, Washid.
Sources in Bollywood insist Faisal has been depressed for some years since his film career failed to take off. Despite a reasonably good launch as a romantic hero in Vikram Bhatt's Madhosh, and then a starring role opposite Aamir himself in Dharmesh Darshan's Mela in the year 2000, Faisal was unable to cut it in the movies.
Professional failure was followed by a personal setback when Faisal's marriage failed some years later. Sources say Aamir has always had Faisal's best interests at heart, but for Faisal it was never easy having a super-achiever at home.
"I've worked with both of them, I know both of them. Its not easy being the brother of an achiever like Aaamir Khan,” said Dharmesh Darshan.
The Faisal versus Aamir saga is far from over. Faisal will appear in court on October 20 after undergoing a medical examination.
