Next Friday will see the release of only one major movie and that is Harry Baweja's Vikram Bhatt directed SPEED. The film starring Zayed Khan, Urmila Matondkar, Aashish Chaudhary, Sanjay Suri and Aftab Shivdasani has little or no chance because the two releases of last week are quite fresh and the Priyadarshan directed BHOOL BHULAIYAA is still strong.

Coming to last Friday's 'Eid' clash, Yash Raj's LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG started on a dull note in Bombay and the opening was by and large weak almost everywhere. Saturday and Sunday saw some pick up, specially at some multiplexes. Trade feels that the Jaya, Rani, Konkona, Kunal and Abhishek (extended special appearance) starrer, LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG, may not live up to the Yash Raj brand. The movie has fared much better in the Overseas, grossing a good $501,714 in the UK and a decent $320,987 in the US, during the first weekend.

The second release of the week, T-Series' Priyadarshan directed Akshay, Shiney, Vidya, Amisha and Rajpal starrer, BHOOL BHULAIYAA, dominated the Yash Raj venture from the first show itself, both in India and the Overseas. The movie embarked on good start in Bombay, in spite of the last days of 'Ramzaan' and outside of Bombay the opening was very good at most of the places. Trade feels that BHOOL BHULAIYAA is a fair entertainer and given its good start it is on course to succeed. Even in the Overseas, BHOOL BHULAIYAA easily outscored LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG, more in the US with $512,000 and less in UK, grossing $598,341, during the first weekend.

As was obvious to all and sundry, the four bunched releases of October 5, Ram Gopal Varma's GO, Swadeshi Entertainment's CHHODON NAA YAAR, Percept Picture Company's 50 LAKH and Animaa Films' IT'S BREAKING NEWS, have failed dismally at the ticket window. While GO is a debacle with around 1.25 crore, CHHODON NAA YAAR is a box-office bomb, netting around 15 lakhs. The third release, 50 LAKH is worth just a few thousands and IT'S BREAKING NEWS has broken the back of its distributors, netting less than 10 lakhs!

Moving on to JOHNNY GADDAAR, the movie slips further and there are no chances of a recovery. In its second week, the movie collected 32.50 lakhs from Bombay, 3 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 10 lakhs from Pune, 9.65 lakhs from Delhi city, 2.65 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3.50 lakhs from Noida, 1.10 lakhs from Kaushambi and 1.25 lakhs from Lucknow. During the week, JOHNNY GADDAAR added another 1.25 crores and the two week all-India collections are around 4.25 crores. JOHNNY GADDAAR is a failure at the box-office.

The movie that released with JOHNNY GADDAAR, Prakash Jha's low priced Manish Tiwari directed, Shreyas, Imaad and Nikita Anand starrer, DIL DOSTI ETC., had a steady second week. The movie collected 21 lakhs from Bombay, 2.20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.40 lakhs from Surat, 12.65 lakhs from Pune, 1.60 lakhs from Nasik, 13.60 lakhs from Delhi city, 2.75 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2 lakhs from Faridabad, 3.70 lakhs from Noida, 1.90 lakhs from Kaushambi, 2.50 lakhs from Lucknow and 2 lakhs from Indore. With another 90 lakhs, the two week all-India total of DIL DOSTI ETC. stands at slightly less than 2.50 crores and it is a surprising above average!

Despite bad reviews and negative write ups, Priyadarshan continues to beat his DHOL! During the third week, the movie collected 33.50 lakhs from Bombay, 16.80 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.50 lakhs from Jamnagar, 1 lakh each from Himmatnagar and Gandhidham, 1.05 lakhs from Nasik, 20 lakhs from Delhi city, 5.10 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3.15 lakhs from Faridabad, 5.20 lakhs from Noida, 2.50 lakhs each from Kaushambi and Kanpur, 5.85 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.20 lakhs from Nagpur and 1 lakh from Amravati. With another 1.75 crores during the week, DHOL has silenced its detractors as it has netted an impressive 17.25 crores in three weeks from India. The 8 crore Percept project is now a semi-hit (hit in Bombay). DHOL though has flopped in the UK, grossing just $91,559.

Indra Kumar's DHAMAAL sees another decent week. The movie collected 28 lakhs from Bombay, 15.85 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh from Rajkot, 1.25 lakhs from Jamnagar, 1.05 lakhs from Gandhidham, 1.05 lakhs from Nasik, 15.50 lakhs from Delhi city, 2.75 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3 lakhs from Faridabad, 4.10 lakhs from Noida, 1.30 lakhs from Kaushambi, 2.10 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.20 lakhs from Agra, 2.30 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.80 lakhs from Indore and 2.25 lakhs from Hyderabad. With another 1.25 crores, the Dutt, Arshad, Riteish, Jaaved and Aashish starrer crosses 30 crores in five weeks from India and has nearly touched a hit status. No wonder Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria are thinking in terms of a sequel! DHAMAAL is also a good average in the UK with $464,752 so far.

In the end, let us check out Yash Raj's Shah Rukh Khan-Vidya Malvade starrer, CHAK DE! INDIA. The movie has another steady week to show as it collected 30 lakhs from Bombay, 2.60 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 12 lakhs from Delhi city, 2.55 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1 lakh from Faridabad, 3 lakhs from Noida, 3.10 lakhs from Nagpur, 1 lakh each from Raipur and Aurangabad, 5.50 lakhs from Calcutta and 8.50 lakhs from Hyderabad. With another 1.40-1.50 crores during the week, the Shimit Amin directed CHAK DE! INDIA has so far netted an astonishing 64 crores in nine weeks from India. The 18-20 crore movie is already a blockbuster and chances are that it may just about creep to an all time blockbuster list, that is amongst the top five grossers of Bollywood. CHAK DE! INDIA is also a hit in the Overseas, grossing $1,120,404 from the US and $867,265 from UK.
