Jyotika is one of the most celebrated heroines of Kollywood. Her debut was through a Hindi movie Doli Sajaa Ke Rakhna opposite Akshaye Khanna, directed by Priyadarshan. Though the film was not a big commercial success, she got noticed in the Tamil and Telugu film industry. Her entry into Tamil was through the Ajith-starrer Vaali. Jyotika proved her acting prowess through her very first film and since then there has been no looking back. Kushi, Dhool, Dum Dum Dum, Snegithiye, Kaaka Kaaka, Mayavi, the success trail followed. Not only was she recognised as a performer, she became a dream girl in Tamil cinema. Her strengths are her casual looks and the fitting degree of performance she gives to the varied roles. Sillunu Oru Kaadhal with Suriya, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu with Kamal Haasan, Manmadhan with Silambarasan, Chandramukhi with Rajinikanth, Pachaikili Muthuccharam with Sarathkumar were some of her best movies. Mozhi directed by Radhamohan with Prithviraj exploited her acting abilities very well. Her awards are many. She got the best actress, Tamil Nadu State Award for 2005 for her role in Chandramukhi. She also bagged the filmfare awards for the years 1999, 2000 and 2003. A dedicated actress, she gave up her career after her with her co-star Suriya. She is now enjoying her motherhood, devoting all her time and affection for her daughter Diya. Though not seen in movies, her fan clubs keep running and die-hard movie-lovers desperately want her back on screen.
