Soon after the tremendous success of Sivaji, Shankar had announced his next project with much fanfare, contrary to the long sabbatical he usually takes.

It came in the form of the announcement of his magnum opus Robot, a project earlier discussed with Kamal.

This did not take off and Shankar had managed to impress Shahrukh Khan so much that he had expressed his willingness to not just star in it but produce it as well, under his Red Chillies Entertainment banner, all this after listening to a one line pitch of the movie.

Shankar had even announced that the project would hit the floors by January 2008. For this purpose, he had sent the fully bound script of the movie, in English, for Shahrukh’s approval. Shankar says that contrary to media reports that Shahrukh had expressed discontent over the script, the actor had only opined he didn’t fit into certain scenes and has hence turned down the idea of doing the film. With this both have decided to shelve the project parting ways amicably. Another chance for the two coming together is not ruled out though.
