PARIS (Reuters) - A Paris production of opera masterpiece La Traviata has been cancelled due to a strike by staff, a notice on the Opera Garnier Web site said on Saturday.
The strike at the Opera Garnier, one of Paris' best known tourist attractions, was the latest called to protest government plans to reform pension privileges enjoyed by some workers.
"As a result of this, the management of the National Opera of Paris has been obliged to cancel the production of La Traviata at the Palais Garnier which ought to have taken place on October 27," the opera house Web site statement said.
Plans by President Nicolas Sarkozy to reform France's pensions system led to protests by transport workers earlier this month that caused major disruption on roads and railways.
