Pritish Nandy Communications announces that it has joined hands with Hong Kong based Zero Friction to enter the world of short format cricket with the popular annual event, the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes on October 27-28. The tournament will be played over the coming weekend at the Kowloon Cricket Club, set amongst the skyscrapers of the Kowloon Peninsula.
The All-Star team led by Shane Warne will be one of the highlights of this year's tournament. The team will include, among others, Brian Lara, Anil Kumble, Glenn McGrath, Craig McMillan and Heath Streak. Nine other teams, including T20 champions India, Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and host country Hong Kong will also be chasing the US$ 100,000 first prize.
If India wins this weekend's tournament, it will consolidate its status as cricket's short-form champions. Last year, an unfancied South Africa defeated four-time champions Pakistan in a thrilling final.
The Hong Kong Cricket Sixes began in 1992 and the tournament is recognised as the world's foremost competition in this format. Over the past 15 years, it has featured leading cricketing nations, plus an All-Star Team, fighting for the short format honours over an October weekend in Hong Kong. Some of the world's best players have played in the tournament- Wasim Akram, Andrew Flintoff, Adam Gilchrist, Desmond Haynes, Brian Lara, Glenn McGrath, Vivian Richards, Sachin Tendulkar and Steve Waugh-and this year's All Star team will be no less, making it one of cricket's most entertaining and much anticipated annual events. ESPN STAR Sports will globally broadcast the entire tournament live.
PNC and Zero Friction intend to make the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes one of cricket's most popular and entertaining events and have collaborated on a long term basis to ensure this. This is PNC's first move into cricket.
