Success and debate go hand in hand. The collection for 'Katradhu Thamizh' is dismal. The lavish praise earned is not deserved. Ram has got the message across like a slap on the face that there is no respect in Tamilnadu for those getting education in Tamil. While this is the refrain from one faction of viewers, there's an opposite reaction from another quarter. If you learn Tamil, should you work only as a Tamil teacher? Vairamuthu and Pa Vijay have been educated in Tamil but are they not earning in lakhs? Ram has also studied in Tamil, is it not?
Ram's argument however varies from the above reactions. "Rs.2000 only for one who studies a 2000 year old language, but two lakhs for one who studies computers that's a 20 year old phenomenon?" is the angle that gets Ram his success run.
Ram hails from Coimbatore where a felicitation function was held for him recently. Speaking at the function, Ram said emotionally that he was trying to project a very prevalent social issue and he got paid only a few thousands for his work.
He lit the fire in Coimbatore and the cracker burst in Chennai. "For someone who was directing his first film, we paid him more than we normally do, even though he actually overshot the budget," said the producer in a counter attack.
All this aside, there's one group that is grumbling that Ram does not know how to compose scenes and it was the cameraman who helped the film to its success. That's why we say success and debate go hand in hand!
