The run up to the Oscars next year has been quite stormy in India, what with the unholy row between Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Eklavya and Dharm. The Indian nomination for the Oscars aroused enough debate and anger. But one film has been quietly making the rounds as its producers and director go about the business of promoting it.
The film is The Namesake and producer Ronnie Screwala and director Mira Nair are going about their work in a systematic fashion. They have been quitely doing the rounds of screenings of their film for the Oscar jury members and have been aggressively promoting their film. If the talk in international papers is to be believed, then it appears that our own Tabu stands a good chance of receiving a nomination for as best actor (female) in the mainstream awards section for her stellar performance in the movie. The Namesake has also done very good business in the USA and had managed to impress both the NRI and the mainstream audience. One can only wait and watch how far the film goes. But to come back to the beginning, wonder what's happening with Eklavya?
