Sudhir Mishra's Khoya Khoya Chand is set during the Golden years of the Hindi film industry, the Fifties and the Sixties. The film has an amazing spread of the quintessential song and dance routine of that period, like the mujra, the cabaret and even a steamy rain dance.
The dance sequences have been used to not only recreate the period but also to take the narrative forward. The run-up to the shooting saw leading lady Soha Ali Khan training in various dance forms beginning with Kathak. A film with such an assorted spread needed varied techniques and skill sets for the choreography. So the director took care to choose stalwarts like Harshall-Vithal, Kamal Nath, Oscar Unger and Rajeev Surti, each an authority on a particular genre, be it a beautifully orchestrated Kathak piece or a peppy-rock n roll number.
