Ashima Belapurkar and Niharika Khan, the costume designers for Khoya Khoya Chand have been researching intensively to get the right look for the film. The duo has left no stone unturned in their effort to get the right look, beginning with referring to old film magazines, watching old films and period footage, going through photographs of ex diva's and culminating in ransacking the wardrobes of their mothers and grandmothers.
Every single character in the film has been given a specific look. Diversity has been added by the fact that the characters develop over two decades, the 1950's and the 1960's. The fifties sees an abundance of baggy trousers, silks and palette of blacks, whites and muted shades, the Sixties take us into the era of drainpipes and chiffons, and a profusion of bright hues. This difference is seen in the hairstyles and make-up of the characters as well. The film's characters have been fashioned after the great actresses of that period like Nadira, Nargis and Meena Kumari among others. Old make-up artistes, who actually worked with these stars, have also been sourced to get the correct look.
