Washington, Nov 8 (ANI): Billy Bob Thornton has signed on to star in 'Eagle Eye'.
Playing the lead in the DreamWorks' pic will however be actor Shia LaBeouf.
The plot of the movie revolves around a slacker, to be played by LaBeouf, and a single mother, to be played by Michelle Monaghan, who are framed as terrorists and forced to become members of a cell with plans to carry out a political assassination.
Thornton will play a patriotic government employee who leads a homeland security team that tracks down the fugitives.
The actor's role was specially created by director DJ Caruso, reports Variety.
Also on board to star is Rosario Dawson.
Though penned by Daniel McDermott, the most recent draft has been written by Hillary Seitz.
Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Pat Crowley and Ed McDonnell are producing. (ANI)
