There is no question of barring the average cine-goer from seeing films in the forthcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI) at Goa, but entry will strictly be on payment of a registration fee.

Denying reports in the media, the Directorate of Film Festivals which organizes the Festival in association with the Goa government said, "A fee of Rs. 300 will enable anyone to get registered as a delegate and see films in any of the theatres."

Festival Director Neelam Kapur also told glamsham.com that "A decision had been taken to restrict the number of local viewers in theatres in view of the complaint by the film industry last year to the effect that visitors from outside Goa were unable to see films because of the local cine-goers."

Clarifying the position relating to ticketing, she said, "The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had laid down the rule that films without the censor certificate of the CBFC were not open for screening to the general public."

Regular lovers of cinema would therefore be registered as delegates. This fee will allow cine-goers to see up to 2 films everyday, provided they have reserved seats in advance at any one of the 20 odd ticket booths being set up in Goa.

Under the new streamlined system, film delegates will be able to see up to three films a day while film critics can see up to 5 films. However, they will also have to get the seats reserved as the ticketing booths in advance. The booths will give seat numbers which will ensure place.
