Apparently a lot went into the making the music of Saawariya. For over two years, music composer Monty Sharma laboured over the film's soundtrack, shut into his studio. In the process, the poor guy neglected his health altogether.
The result was that the 35-year-old Monty put on 35 kilos of weight. Today he stands at a staggering 118 kilos! Monty knew that total dedication was required for a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. He had worked previously with Bhansali for the music of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, the entire background score of Devdas and the music of Black. So he knew exactly was he was getting into and what was required of him. But even he did not reckon that he would have to pay such a hefty price for his tunes. Thirty five kilos in two years for Saawariya. The composer weighed 90 kilos when he finished Black. By the time he finished Saawariya he was 125 kilos. That was when he decided that he needed to do something to get back into shape. The day after he finished work on the film, he went into an exercise and diet mode. The result: he lost seven kilos in the last one month. But he says he does not regret putting on weight while working on the music for Saawariya because of the recognition and appreciation that he has received for its music. Like he says philosophically, kuch paane ke liye kabhie kabhie kuch khona bhi parta hai.!
